After years of living in constant excruciating pain, Samantha Noah got her active life back on track thanks to a successful spinal fusion surgery performed by Alfred F. Faust, M.D., a fellowship-trained spine subspecialist at the Orlin & Cohen Orthopedic Group.
A car accident in her early 20s left the early childhood education teacher and fitness instructor with a herniated disc in her lower back.
"My entire world was turned upside down," Samantha explains. "I was miserable at work. I couldn't easily engage with my students – bending down to their level or sitting for extended periods of time was unbearable. And I couldn't pursue my passion for fitness. It definitely destroyed my quality of life."
Samantha had exhausted every option over the years, including chiropractic care and cortisone shots, and was eventually referred to Dr. Faust at Orlin & Cohen.
"I immediately appreciated his calm, confident manner," she recalls. "He took the time to explain everything to me in layman's terms and was very compassionate. The spine is his subspecialty so I knew he was very knowledgeable, which of course, was important to me. After all, deciding to have spinal surgery is a huge decision – but I am so glad I did."
Dr. Faust performed Samantha's anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) surgery in June of 2009. Following a three-month recovery, she returned to moderate activity. At her one-year, post-surgery checkup, Dr. Faust gave Samantha the go-ahead to return to the gym. Soon after that, she went skydiving!
"Having my spinal surgery was the best decision I've ever made," she says. "I trusted Dr. Faust with my life – and he gave it back to me. I am so grateful to him. He's empowered me to live my life, my way. I can't thank Dr. Faust enough."
